Ashland School Board parts ways with superintendent

The Ashland School Board is looking for a new superintendent after parting ways with Erik Olson, who had led the district since 2018.

Olson's departure is effective immediately. The school board issued a news release making it clear that there were no performance issues or any allegations of wrongdoing on Olson's part.

"Erik Olson is an outstanding educational leader and the board thanks him for his service to our district," said Jeffrey Moravchik, board president, in the news release.

"He has set our district on a solid path and helped ensure equity across our schools. He has been steadfast in his focus on ensuring that each and every student could thrive in a welcoming and inclusive learning community. In separating from Mr. Olson, the board simply wished to move in a different strategic direction. We wish him the very best in the future."

According to the news release, Olson led the creation of a learning and development system for staff during his time with the district and also implemented leadership and instructional coaching models.

The board said it will announce its search plans for a new superintendent in the coming weeks.
